Dear Friends of the University of Rochester Libraries,
It has been a privilege to serve as Interim Dean of Libraries over the past four months and to lead this remarkable community of learners, researchers, and innovators. My systems thinking and user-centered strategist background has deeply influenced my vision for the libraries. At the heart of this vision is a commitment to fostering spaces and services that inspire knowledge creation, collaboration, and discovery for all.
In this issue of Tower Talk, we’re excited to share some of the many ways our libraries continue to engage and support the University of Rochester community:
- The newly relaunched Middle English Texts Series (METS) website from the Robbins Library, which brings medieval texts to a modern audience.
- Our beloved Scare Fair made a triumphant return this fall, offering students a playful yet meaningful way to explore library spaces and services—all with a Halloween-inspired twist.
- The Barbara J. Burger iZone launched its second student-led escape room over Meliora Weekend, showcasing iZone’s mission to foster creativity, collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.
We’re also highlighting two fun and inspiring stories from our library community. The first features Kevin Hu ’25, who recently discovered that Gleason Library doubles as the perfect venue for celebration when his friends surprised him with a late-night birthday party amidst the midterm-season buzz. The second showcases library student employee Liv Ritz ’25, who has transformed her creative talents and business acumen into impactful contributions to the library’s social media presence.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we are creating a library that serves as a vibrant home for ideas, a catalyst for innovation, and a cornerstone of the University of Rochester experience.
With gratitude,
Maurini Strub
