About me
I am the Assistant Dean for Scholarly Resources and Curation, a portfolio of departments focused on our collections, our technological infrastructure and systems, and a wide range of services that help our users discover, access, and leverage information. My departments include: Acquisitions, Collection Development, Digital Initiatives, Metadata Services, the Robbins Library & Koller-Collins Center, and Rare Books, Special Collections & Preservation (RBSCP).
Prior to this role, I served as Director of Metadata Strategies, focusing on developing and maintaining effective cross-departmental, interoperable workflows and metadata-driven services that support the research, teaching, and learning efforts of the University. I established and developed RCL’s Metadata Outreach program, a service that leverages the rich experience and expertise held by RCL’s Metadata Services staff, particularly in information organization, metadata schema, and controlled vocabularies, to help the University of Rochester community to recognize and tackle their information-based or metadata-based challenges. I am particularly interested in empowering folks through understanding and developing their skills in metadata creation, allowing them to make their materials and ideas discoverable and accessible.
I earned my MLIS from the University of Washington and a Certificate in Curation and Management of Digital Assets from the University of Maryland. I also earned my MA in Victorian Studies from Birkbeck, University of London, and my BA in Victorian Studies from Vassar College. An active participant in the profession, I teach in the University of Maryland’s MLIS program and serves as an instructor for Fundamentals of Metadata, an online continuing education course offered by Core, a Division of the American Library Association.
