The Ask the Archivist column in the Spring 2023 Rochester Review answered a question from an alumnus hoping to learn more about why the University Marching Band ended its long and successful career. You can read the article here.
The Marching Band got off on the right foot several times, beginning with a call for the formation of a band in 1908.
The major success came almost 20 years later. The Campus newspaper reported that the marching band would make its debut at the Clarkson game on November 6, 1926. A few weeks later, Rochester played Hobart, and lucky for us, the game was filmed. You can see a clip here.
In the 1960s, the band was filmed again, both on the home field at Fauver Stadium, and at an away game.
